Biking in Romania: “Emil Cioran” cyclotouristic route

Another trail that we enjoyed takes us to Sibiu, this time. More exactly, the surroundings of Sibiu, towards the saxon village Rășinari. This route – the “Emil Cioran” cyclotouristic route – was launched on November 9, 2013. We also participated to the launch and I have to say that we were really impressed by the huge number of cyclists that came. The whole project belongs to “Tură în natură“, to whom we have to say a big thank you! 🙂

The tour was marked in 2012 and has 2 versions:  Rășinari version and Trăinei – Poplaca version. We only had the change to try the first one.

Details

Rășinari version: the municipal Stadium – “Sub Arini” park – Dumbrava forest – Rășinari hermitage – Rășinari – Dumbrava forest  – the municipal Stadium

Start / end points:  The Sibiu Municipal Stadium

Length: aprox 23 km

Level difference: aprox 200 m

Time: 3-4 ore

Difficulty: beginner-medium

Equipment: rain-wear, wind-stopper, helmet, spare wheel room +bike pump, SPF lotion and anti-mosquito spray (if you`re going in summer), enough water

Detailed map here, as well as the GPS track

The whole area is amazing: Dumbrava forest, Rășinari, the country roads. You can also visit the village museum “Astra” as the tour passes right near, it as well as the hermitage of Rășinari. Although the tour passes right behind the memorial house of the famous writer Emil Cioran, unfortunately this cannot be visited.

Enjoy the ride!
